Everyone feels slightly nervous before an interview, particularly if you’re really keen to get the job! Of course that’s perfectly natural and can give you the extra “edge” you need to give your very best.
However, too much anxiety can have the opposite effect and mean you just don’t do yourself justice.

Here are some hints:

  • If you find yourself starting to panic, try the WASP technique
  • Practise relaxing Breathing
  • Avoid arriving at the last minute. Give yourself more time than you need and if you're going to be late, for example because of traffic problems, telephone reception and let them know
  • Wear comfortable clothing which is appropriate for the type of interview
  • Check basic grooming – hair, finger nails, shoes
  • The first impression is very important, so greet the interviewer/s politely and with a confident handshake. If you are sitting down, don’t fidget. Check your sitting posture.
  • Speak clearly and confidently.
  • Maintain eye contact.
